Council Activities for the 2022-2023 Fraternal Year
A. Church Activities:
1. RSVP (Refund Support Vocations Program) provides financial and moral support to 2 or more seminarians annually during their formative semesters. These funds are used for tuition, books, emergency expenditures, and other living expenses.
2. Archdiocese of Louisville Annual Clergy Appreciation Dinner, held every January, at which all clergy of every discipline attend for free. Tickets for the general public are $25 each.
15 members and their spouse attend annually at a cost of $25 each.
B. Community Activities:
1. Chicken Sunday at Saint Luke Parish – Members provide volunteer services seven times a year from September to April in the form of preparation, cooking, serving and cleaning, and sell pull-tab games as a fund-raising activity for the parish.
5 members volunteer an average of 15 hours each annually.
2. School Fall Festival – In November of each year, members provide volunteer services in the form of preparation, cooking, serving and cleaning, and sell pull-tab games as a fund-raising activity for the parish.
6 members volunteer an average of 5 hours each annually.
3. St. Rita Parish Picnic - In July of each year, members provide volunteer services in the form of preparation, setup and teardown, and sell pull-tab and raffle games as a fund-raising activity for the parish.
10 members volunteer an average of 20 hours each annually.
4. St. Luke Parish Picnic - In June of each year, members provide volunteer services in the form of preparation, setup and teardown, and sell pull-tab and raffle games as a fund-raising activity for the parish.
10 members volunteer an average of 20 hours each annually.
5. Pancake Sunday Breakfast – Every 3rd Sunday of the month from September through April, members provide volunteer services in the form of preparation, cooking, serving and cleaning as a fundraiser for the council’s activities.
10 members volunteer an average of 30 hours each annually.
6. St. Rita Parish Lenten Fish Fry - During Lent of each year, members provide volunteer services in the form of selling pull-tabs as a fund-raising activity for the parish.
6 members volunteer an average of 12 hours each annually.
C. Council Activities:
1. Corporate Mass – Members attend Sunday morning Mass 4 times a year at a local church. Afterward, they gather with other Knights and their families for breakfast at a local restaurant.
15 members participate once each month.
2. Tootsie Roll Drive - In October of each year, members provide volunteer services in order to distribute Tootsie Rolls on behalf of the intellectually disabled in the local area. Donations are accepted, and 100% of all proceeds are donated to two local agencies providing care and services to those individuals.
12 members volunteer an average of 5 hours each annually.
3. Deceased Member Mass – The council provides a Bible for each deceased member’s family, attends the funeral home and recites the Rosary if requested, and attends the funeral mass for the deceased member.
Approximately 45 member-hours were offered last fraternal year.
4. Insurance Night – Once a year every fall, the Council members attend a dinner and receive an address from a Knights of Columbus Insurance Agent, reminding them of their opportunities and family responsibilities.
Approximately 40 members participated for an average of 2 hours each.
5. Bereavement Meal Assistance – The council provides a complete meal for the family of a deceased parish member following the deceased parish member’s funeral.
This is a Council-wide activity.
6. Monthly Council Business Meetings – On the third Tuesday of each month (except for June and December) all members of the Council meet to discuss the council’s business and vote on various projects and matters.
35 members volunteer and average of 2 hours each month.
7. Monthly Council Officer Meetings - On the second Tuesday of each month (except for June and December) the officers of the Council meet to discuss the council’s business and vote on various projects and matters to be brought up before the at-large Council Business Meetings.
8 members volunteer an average of 2 hours each month.
D. Pro-Life Activities:
1. Pro-Life Mass - Members attend an annual Mass offered in support of pro-life activities.
15 members participate annually.
E. Youth Activities:
1. Basketball Free Throw Contest – Between January and March of every year, boys and girls between the ages of 10 and 14 compete in free throw contests at the local level, seeking to progress all the way to the state level and beyond. Members volunteer scoring and general support to the participants.
5 members volunteer an average of 3 hours each annually.
2. Soccer Challenge – Between September and November of every year, boys and girls between the ages of 9 and 14 demonstrate their skills in the penalty kick at the local level, seeking to progress all the way to the state level and beyond. Members volunteer scoring for each age group and general support to the participants.
3 members volunteer an average of 8 hours each annually.
3. Boy Scouts of America Troop #376 - The council provides financial support to the council on an as-needed basis. Further, one member of the council is both the Youth Activities Chairman and Scoutmaster with the tro0p. This troop is located at St. Luke's Church.
This is a Council-wide activity, and one member volunteers an average of 50 hours annually.
4. Scholarship Award - One male graduate of St Rita School who will attend a Catholic high school in Louisville receives a $500 scholarship towards his tuition expenses.
3 members volunteer an average of 4 hours each annually.
F. Family Activities:
1. Family of the Month Award – The council awards an honorary distinction to a family that demonstrates the character and beliefs held in highest honor by the Knight of Columbus.
This is a Council-wide activity.
2. Knight of the Month Award – The council awards an honorary distinction to a Knight who demonstrates the character and beliefs held in highest honor by the Knight of Columbus.
This is a Council-wide activity.
3. Quarterly Dinner/Council Meetings – Once each quarter, the Council hosts a dinner meeting for the Knights and their families. A guest speaker is invited to address the group.
This is a Council-wide activity.
4. The council awards an honorary distinction to a family that demonstrates the character and beliefs held in highest honor by the Knight of Columbus.
This is a Council-wide activity. 45 members and their spouse and families participate each quarter.
5. Food Basket Donations – The Council donates $1,500 between Thanksgiving and Christmas each year to the St Rita and St Luke St Vincent DePaul Chapters for their Christmas Basket projects.
This is a Council-wide activity.
6. The council awards an honorary distinction to a family that demonstrates the character and beliefs held in highest honor by the Knight of Columbus.
This is a Council-wide activity.
G. Round Table Project:
1. This is a Council-wide activity offered to parishes within the area to assist Pastors with any project that they may select – 100% of the net proceeds from all Sunday Pancake Breakfasts will pay the cost of this project. Individual Knights will also donate any necessary labor. The Council will cover any cost overruns.
